<Tigre_blanc> Tonight's study is entitled "The Foundation of the Church"
<Tigre_blanc> !Kjv Matthew 16:13-16
<TheRanger> Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
<TheRanger> Matthew 16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
<TheRanger> Matthew 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
<TheRanger> Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

<TheRanger> Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
<TheRanger> Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
<Tigre_blanc> In these verses Jesus lays the foundation of the Church
<Tigre_blanc> There is the Greek a play upon the words, "thou art Peter [Greek, "petros" -- literally 'a little rock]', and upon this rock [Greek, "Petra"] I will build my church." He does not promise to build His church upon Peter, but upon Himself, as Peter is careful to tell us. (1Pe_2:4-8).

<TheRanger> I Peter 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
<TheRanger> I Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
<TheRanger> I Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
<TheRanger> I Peter 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
<Tigre_blanc> There is only one foundation to the church and that's Jesus Christ
<Tigre_blanc> !Kjv Ephesians 2:19-22
<TheRanger> Ephesians 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
<TheRanger> Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
<TheRanger> Ephesians 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord
<TheRanger> Ephesians 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
<Tigre_blanc> Ephesians 2:20 states the Jesus is the cheif corner stone
<Tigre_blanc> When they build a building the corner stone is the first stone layed and everything else is build around the corner stone
<Tigre_blanc> The church is based on and held together by Christ
<Tigre_blanc> !Kjv Matthew 7:21-24
<TheRanger> Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
<TheRanger> Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
<TheRanger> Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
<TheRanger> Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock

<TheRanger> Matthew 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not for it was founded upon a rock.
<TheRanger> Matthew 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand
<TheRanger> Matthew 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell and great was the fall of it.
<TheRanger> Matthew 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine
<Tigre_blanc> If a church is founded on anything other than Jesus Christ it will fall
