<Tigre_branco> Tonight's study is entitled "The Family Life"
<Tigre_branco> In tonight's study we will be looking at how families are suppose to act according to the Bible
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:21) Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. <Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:22) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the
<Tigre_branco> church: and he is the savior of the body.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:24) Therefore as the church is subject Christ, <Tigre_branco> so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
<Tigre_branco> First off Ephesians 5:22-23 doesn't mean that the wife is to be a slave to the husband, but that she's
<Tigre_branco> Suppose to recognize him as being the head of the household.
<Tigre_branco> Verse 24. In every thing.] That is, every lawful thing; for it is not intimated that they should obey their husbands in any thing criminal, or in any thing detrimental to the interests of their souls. The husband may be profligate, and may wish his wife to become such also; he may be an enemy to true religion, and use his authority to prevent his wife from those means of grace which she finds salutary to her soul; in none of these things should she obey him.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:25) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also
<Tigre_branco> loved the church, and gave himself for it;
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:26) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:27) That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having
<Tigre_branco> spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:28) So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his
<Tigre_branco> wife loveth himself.
<Tigre_branco> In the original Greek the word in Ephesians 5:25-28 which is translated as "love,loved,and loveth"
<Tigre_branco> is agapao which always referred to unconditional love
<Tigre_branco> The husband is to love his wife the same way that Christ loved the church and that is unconditionally
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:29) For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth
<Tigre_branco> and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:30) For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:31) For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
<Tigre_branco> and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:32) This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 5:33) Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love
<Tigre_branco> his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
<Tigre_branco> When a couple gets married they become as one therefore the Husband is to
<Tigre_branco> love his wife as he loves himself and the wife is suppose to show reverence (respect)
<Tigre_branco> to her husband.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 6:1) Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 6:2) Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 6:3) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
<Tigre_branco> Children are to obey their parents. This is the first commandment with a promise.
<Tigre_branco> Ephesians 6:2-3 is a reference to Exodus 20:12
<Tigre_branco> (Exodus 20:12) Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long
<Tigre_branco> upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
<Tigre_branco> (Ephesians 6:4) And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in
<Tigre_branco> the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
<Tigre_branco> Verse 4. Fathers, provoke not your children to wrath] Avoid all severity; this will hurt your own souls, and do them no good; on the contrary, if punished with severity or cruelty, they will be only hardened and made desperate in their sins. Cruel parents generally have bad children.
<Tigre_branco> He who corrects his children according to God and reason will feel every blow on his own heart more sensibly than his child feels it on his body.
<Tigre_branco> Parents are called to correct; not to punish, their children. Those who punish them do it from a principle of revenge; those who correct them do it from a principle of affectionate concern.
<Tigre_branco> Bring them up, &c.] ektrefete auta en paideia kai nouqesia kuriou? literally, Nourish them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. The mind is to be nourished with wholesome discipline and instruction, as the body is with proper food. paideia, discipline, may refer to all that knowledge which is proper for children,
<Tigre_branco> including elementary principles and rules for behaviour, &c. nouqesia, instruction, may imply whatever is necessary to form the mind; to touch, regulate, and purify the passions; and necessarily includes the whole of religion. Both these should be administered in the Lord - according to his will and word, and in reference to his eternal glory.
<Tigre_branco> All the important lessons and doctrines being derived from his revelation, therefore they are called the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
<Tigre_branco> (Proverbs 22:6) Train up a child in the way he should go: and1 when he is old,
<Tigre_branco> he will not depart from it.
