<Tigre_blanco> Tonights Bible study is entitled "prayer"
<Tigre_blanco> I...What is prayer? <Tigre_blanco> n. prayer <Tigre_blanco> petition or entreaty to god, application to God expressed in words or thoughts; one who prays, one who appeals to God <Tigre_blanco> Prayer <Tigre_blanco> Prayer is the act of attempting to communicate, commonly with a sequence of words, with a deity or spirit for the purpose of worshiping, requesting guidance, requesting assistance, confessing sins, or to express one's thoughts and emotions. The words of the prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person's words. <Tigre_blanco> In the Bible <Tigre_blanco> - pray (In the original Greek the word prayer is proseucheŻ From proseuchomai ; prayer (worship); by implication an oratory (chapel): - X pray earnestly, prayer. <Tigre_blanco> proseuchomai : From pros and euchomai; to pray to God, that is, supplicate, worship:X earnestly, for), make prayer. <Tigre_blanco> pros : A strengthened form of pro; a preposition of direction; forward to, that is, toward (with the genitive case the side of, that is, pertaining to; with the dative case by the side of, that is, near to; usually with the accusative case the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, that is, whither or for which it is predicated): - about, according to, against, among, at, because of, before, between, ([where-]) by, for, X at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), + together, to ([you]) -ward, unto, with (-in). In compounds it denotes essentially the same applications, namely, motion towards, accession to, or nearness at. <Tigre_blanco> euchomai : Middle voice of a primary verb; to wish; by implication to pray to God: - pray, will, wish. <Tigre_blanco> pro: A primary preposition; “fore”, that is, in front of, prior (figuratively superior) to. In compounds it retains the same significations: - above, ago, before, or ever. In compounds it retains the same significations. <Tigre_blanco> Prayer is basically just talking to God. <Tigre_blanco> II....... How should we pray? <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 6:9) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 6:10) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 6:11) Give us this day our daily bread. <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 6:12) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 6:13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and <Tigre_blanco> the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. <Tigre_blanco> When Jesus taught his disciple's this prayer. He was showing them how to pray and not that they had to <Tigre_blanco> use the same words. <Tigre_blanco> Matthew 6:9 Start with worshipping God. <Tigre_blanco> Matthew 6:10 Ask for God's will to be done in your life. <Tigre_blanco> Matthew 6:11 Ask God to supply your daily needs. <Tigre_blanco> Matthew 6:12 Ask God to forgive you of the sins you might have commited durning the day. <Tigre_blanco> Matthew 6:13 Ask God to watch over you and keep you safe <Tigre_blanco> Close your prayer with praise to God. <Tigre_blanco> (1 Thessalonians 5:17) Pray without ceasing. <Tigre_blanco> 1 Thessalonians 5:18) In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God <Tigre_blanco> in Christ Jesus concerning you. <Tigre_blanco> We're to always be in an attitude of prayer. <Tigre_blanco> We'll to thank God for everything. <Tigre_blanco> (Philippians 4:6) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication <Tigre_blanco> with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. <Tigre_blanco> We're to give our requests to God <Tigre_blanco> III.....Who are we to pray for? <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 5:44) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good <Tigre_blanco> to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; <Tigre_blanco> We're to pray for our enemies. <Tigre_blanco> (James 5:16) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. <Tigre_blanco> The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. <Tigre_blanco> We're to pray for one another. <Tigre_blanco> IV.......When are we to pray? <Tigre_blanco> (James 5:13) Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. <Tigre_blanco> We're to pray when we're afflicted. <Tigre_blanco> (Luke 21:36) Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape <Tigre_blanco> all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. <Tigre_blanco> We're to pray always <Tigre_blanco> V.......Does god answer prayer? <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 21:22) And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. <Tigre_blanco> (John 14:13) And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father <Tigre_blanco> may be glorified in the Son. <Tigre_blanco> (John 14:14) If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. <Tigre_blanco> (John 16:24) Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, <Tigre_blanco> that your joy may be full. <Tigre_blanco> (Mark 11:24) Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, <Tigre_blanco> when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. <Tigre_blanco> VI....... Why didn't God answer my prayer? <Tigre_blanco> (James 4:3) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. <Tigre_blanco> If God doesn't answer your prayers....it's because you asked for the wrong reason. <Tigre_blanco> (Philippians 4:19) But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. <Tigre_blanco> It says that God will supply all of your needs....not your wants <Tigre_blanco> VII.......How shouldn't we pray? <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 6:5) And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray <Tigre_blanco> standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that <Tigre_blanco> they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. <Tigre_blanco> We're not to pray just to be seen by others or call attention to ourselves. <Tigre_blanco> (Matthew 6:7) But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathe do: <Tigre_blanco> for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. <Tigre_blanco> We're not to use repetitions....or keep repeating the same thing over and over.
