Post 02-20-2008 Bible study entitled "Freedom in Christ"

<Tigre_blanco> Tonight's Bible study is entitled "Freedom in Christ"
<Tigre_blanco> I: what is freedom.
<Tigre_blanco> freedom
<Tigre_blanco> n. emanci pation; liberty; independence; exemption; release; openness; honorary citizenship; free access
<Tigre_blanco> freedom
<Tigre_blanco> Liberty; the right to do what is not forbidden by law. Freedom does not preclude the idea of subjection to law. Indeed, it presupposes the existence of some legislative provision, the observance of which insures freedom to us, by securing the like observance from others.
<Tigre_blanco> II: We have freedom in Jesus Christ.
<Tigre_blanco> (John 8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
<Tigre_blanco> (John 8:36) If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
<Tigre_blanco> (Galatians 5:1) Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
<Tigre_blanco> We have freedom because we know the truth and have accepted Jesus as
<Tigre_blanco> our Lord and savior
<Disciple> Amen
<Tigre_blanco> III : what does this freedom consist of.
<Tigre_blanco> ......
<Tigre_blanco> (1 Corinthians 6:12) All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
<Tigre_blanco> (1 Corinthians 10:23) All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
<Tigre_blanco> n these 2 verses paul was saying that because of the freedom he has in Jesus
<Tigre_blanco> he could do anything he wanted But not all things are edifying to the body or good for you.
<Tigre_blanco> IV : what are we set free from.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:18) Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:22) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 8:2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
<Tigre_blanco> We are set free from the power of sin and the law.
<Disciple> Amen
<Tigre_blanco> V: Because we have freedom in Jesus , Can we sin if we want to?
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:1) What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:2) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:3) Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:4) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:5) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:7) For he that is dead is freed from sin.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:8) Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:9) Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:11) Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:12) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:13) Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:15) What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 6:16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
<Tigre_blanco> Just because we have freedom in Christ doesn't mean we have the right to sin.
<Tigre_blanco> VI: how are we to use this freedom.
<Tigre_blanco> (1 Corinthians 7:21) Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
<Tigre_blanco> (1 Corinthians 7:22) For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
<Tigre_blanco> We're to use our freedom to serve God.
<Tigre_blanco> VII: how are we not to use our freedom in Christ.
<Tigre_blanco> (Romans 14:21) It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
<Tigre_blanco> We're not to use the freedom we have in Christ to cause our brother to stumble or to offend them or make them weak in the faith.
<Tigre_blanco> (1 Peter 2:16) As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
<Tigre_blanco> We're not to use our liberty(freedom) to cover up being mean to others
