I'm torn between being happy that she may have found a companion and wondering if she is still loyal to my late brother!

a widow is no longer married...
Dear Candlross,
Your sweet sister in law-- is no longer married to your brother. At the moment of death-- she was free from the marriage covenant which bound her to him. I can certainly understand your feelings- I think many family members feel betrayed when the surviving spouse remarries- or begins dating. But truly, the old adage, about walking a mile in someone else's shoes is relevant here. Until you are widowed (and God forbid that you ever are), you can not possibly begin to understand how the marriage covenant ends at the moment of death. It is a real and complete seperation of two-- who had been one. And truly- there is no other kind of loneliness so complete as that of being a widow- especially when the widow had a good marriage. I would encorouage you to be glad for your sister in law- pray for her- and welcome the changes!
Blessings,
