Default Mark 5:21-43

@seekHm1st> Let's go ahead and get started

@seekHm1st> Welcome to the weekly Bible study and server meeting here in #thechapel

@seekHm1st> It's really nice to see all of you here.

@seekHm1st> Especially since I have been conspicuous by my own absence.

@seekHm1st> It is nice to see faces I know, and see some new ones :)

@seekHm1st> I am receiving prayer requests as I am typing.

@seekHm1st> I welcome that.

@seekHm1st> rest assured, they will be prayed about.

@seekHm1st> And please feel free to continue to do so.

@seekHm1st> I would also invite those of you with prayer requests to submit them on the server website as well.

@seekHm1st> There are more folks than just little old me and Bethel who would enjoy joining with you all in prayer on these things.

@seekHm1st> It is such a privilege to go before the Mighty God with our needs, and the needs of others.

@seekHm1st> And with that, before a word of prayer, I would like to introduce this evening's teacher.

@seekHm1st> Some of you have had the distinct pleasure of being involved in her studies before.

@seekHm1st> If you have not, you are in for a treat.

@seekHm1st> Usually, all you have to do to spell someone's downfall, is try to build them up

@seekHm1st> lol

@seekHm1st> That is never the case with Bethel, because she lets the Word of God do all the talking.

@seekHm1st> Let's open with prayer........

@seekHm1st> Heavenly Father,

@seekHm1st> WE come before You this evening with willing hearts........

@seekHm1st> and we ask You to prepare us to hear what You have for us

@seekHm1st> Be with Bethel, and give her words to say

@seekHm1st> that we may come to know You more deeply

@seekHm1st> and take what we know, lovingly, into this world and share it with those who so desperately need You in their lives.

@seekHm1st> These are the things that we ask Father, that You may be glorified in all things.

@seekHm1st> Amen

Snapstur> Amen

@seekHm1st> Bethel?

HisDaughter> yes Lord Jesus amen!

dodi> amen

@Bethel> Welcome everyone!!!!

GentleDove> amen

HisDaughter> :)

@Bethel> The love of the Lord is in this place...

@Bethel> If you have your Bibles handy, turn to Mark 5:

HisDaughter> yes thank you Lord

@Bethel> The lesson tonight deals with two intertwined events.

@Bethel> Jesus is dealing with people and teaching them how to have faith.

@Bethel> Much of the book of Mark is lessons in faith.

@Bethel> When we have faith, no matter how small, He responds to it, where it is weak, misdirected, or hesitant, He strengthens it.

@Bethel> He calls us and challenges us to grow stronger in our faith.

@Bethel> Jesus had been away across the lake.

@Bethel> People are waiting on the s****.

@Bethel> They were people who had witnessed his ministry in the lives of others.

@Bethel> Many had needs of their own, and they believed Jesus could help them.

@Bethel> Two people in particular watched for his arrival.

@Bethel> Both anxiously awaited Jesus' expected coming. How long?

@Bethel> One a sense of urgency - his beloved 12 year-old daughter is seriously ill.

@Bethel> The other had carefully planned to be as little noticed as possible. Their stories intertwine.

@Bethel> Out text begins with Mark 5: 21

@Bethel> 21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.

@Bethel> What was this lake also known as? o/

@Bethel> anyone?

Flute> umm

@Bethel> hint Sea of

Deacon> o/

@Bethel> deacon

Deacon> Galilee

@Bethel> yes

Deacon> misspelled

@Bethel> ok

HisDaughter> Galilee?

@Bethel> 22 Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet

@Bethel> What was the synagogue ruler's name? o/

Flute> o/

@Bethel> Flute

Flute> Jarius

@Bethel> you got it

@Bethel> 23 and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and lay your hands on her so that she will be healed and live."

@Bethel> What did Jairus ask Jesus to do? o/

dodi> o/

@Bethel> dodi

dodi> come pass his hand over his daughter

@Bethel> yes

@Bethel> Jairus was a ruler of the Synagogue in Capernaum. That means he was a layman in charge of maintenance and arrangements for services.

@Bethel> He asked Jesus to lay hands on his daughter.

@Bethel> Since this was a common practice of the Rabbis, it really does not show that Jairus had real confidence in Jesus' power.

@Bethel> But this shows that Jesus saw a seed of faith in Jairus' plea.

@Bethel> faith of the grain of a mustard seed

@Bethel> 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.

@Bethel> 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years.

@Bethel> 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.

@Bethel> 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak,

@Bethel> 28 because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed."

@Bethel> She did not want to openly let anyone know it was she who had touched his garment.

@Bethel> According to Jewish law, every person who came into contact with her

@Bethel> was considered unclean due to her issue of blood.

@Bethel> If you touched this woman or was touched by her, you could not go to God's Temple for a week. She was an outcast.

@Bethel> 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

@Bethel> 30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"

@Bethel> 31 "You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' "

@Bethel> 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.

@Bethel> Do you think Jesus knew who touched his clothes? o/

@Bethel> anyone?

dodi> o/

@Bethel> dodi

dodi> I am not sure because he asked but that could have been for them

Carol> o/

@Bethel> Carol

Carol> he ask the disciple

@Bethel> anyone else

HisDaughter> I’m not sure if that's part of being human, I know he's fully human and fully God, hmm

Flute> o/

@Bethel> Flute

Flute> I believe he asked the disciples who touched him

@Bethel> He knew, but He wanted the woman to admit it was she

dodi> ahhhhh

Flute> but he wanted the woman to admit it by faith

Flute> as a witness

@Bethel> yes

Flute> to her faith

@Bethel> because she was so ashamed of her condition

Flute> for a testimony to others to build them up too

@Bethel> yes

@Bethel> 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.

@Bethel> 34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

@Bethel> The woman had strong faith that she would be healed, but she did not want to

@Bethel> draw attention to herself.

@Bethel> She had a low self-esteem.

@Bethel> She felt her needs were not worthy of His attention.

@Bethel> Can any of you relate to her?

Flute> o/

@Bethel> Flute

Snapstur> o/

dodi> o/sure can

@Bethel> Snapstur

@Bethel> yes we all feel that way sometimes

@Bethel> Jesus wanted her to show her faith publicly, as that would strengthen her faith, give

@Bethel> her greater confidence and assurance.

@Bethel> He called her to focus upon Him, who loved her.

@Bethel> As she took that public step, her faith grew.

@Bethel> This is so true with all of us

@Bethel> When Jesus called her daughter, that must have let the crowd know that she should be accepted by them.

@Bethel> Are we afraid to act because our faith is weak?

@Bethel> yes at times for me

Flute> o/

@Bethel> Flute

Flute> yeah, but afraid of not being accepted too

Carol> o/

@Bethel> Carol

Carol> sometimes we are reluctant to ask

dodi> o/

@Bethel> dodi

dodi> sometimes we don’t think we are worth it

@Bethel> so true...but when we get a hold of knowing that Jesus is for us and loves us... well.....

@Bethel> By just taking a small step of faith in every obstacle, challenge, and trial, it will give us an opportunity to be an overcomer.

@Bethel> Each time we see God answer a prayer, it helps our faith to grow stronger.

@Bethel> If anyone has anything to add... just raise your hand... o/

dodi> o/bethel

@Bethel> dodi

dodi> it takes faith to ask if we feel like flute and carol and I said

dodi> that is faith to ask anyway faith in who he is

dodi> lol

@Bethel> you are right on sis

@Bethel> 35 While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. "Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher anymore?"

Acityangel> amen

@Bethel> 36 Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid; just believe."

@Bethel> That must have been very hard for Jairus to believe when it seemed all was lost.

@Bethel> the news of his daughter being dead

@Bethel> We will see that Jairus was tested at least three times:

@Bethel> 1. Jesus delayed going with him to heal a woman

@Bethel> 2. The message, "Your daughter is dead"

@Bethel> 3. Crowd laughed and mocked Jesus

@Bethel> All that would surely kill one's faith

@Bethel> 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.

@Bethel> 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.

@Bethel> 39 He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep."

@Bethel> 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child's father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.

@Bethel> Who did Jesus allow in the room with the girl? o/

Carol> o/

@Bethel> Carol

Carol> Peter, James and John

@Bethel> who else

Carol> mother and father

@Bethel> yes

@Bethel> 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!").

@Bethel> Praise the Lord!!

@Bethel> 42 Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.

@Bethel> Where are the mockers now???

@Bethel> 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

Carol> o/

@Bethel> yes Carol

Carol> they left and went there way

@Bethel> no more mocking

Flute> o/

Carol> yes

@Bethel> Why do you think Jesus gave orders not to tell anyone? o/

@Bethel> Flute so sorry

Flute> I’m lagging it’s ok

@Bethel> Why do you think Jesus gave orders not to tell anyone? o/

@Bethel> We talked about this in previous studies

@Bethel> anyone?

Flute> so that the other times will be a testimony

Flute> oops o/

@Bethel> and something else

Deacon> They would have tried to arrest him maybe

@Bethel> and because the crowds mobbed him

Flute> because he would've been bombarded

@Bethel> right on

@Bethel> Is there anything that holds you back from the Savior?

@Bethel> Just think on this

@Bethel> These are thoughts to ponder:

@Bethel> Do we sincerely trust the Lord?

@Bethel> Do we have faith that He can be trusted, and is quite capable?

@Bethel> Do we feel too small or insignificant?

@Bethel> Jesus expressed His love for us on the cross.

@Bethel> We ought to always go to Him first!

@Bethel> People are still reaching for Jesus' hand, whether they know it or not.

@Bethel> His hand is still available, but it now comes through my hands and your hands.

@Bethel> When we are given opportunities to touch others that need Him, we should say, "Fear not, only believe." I will close with that thought.

@Bethel> Let's go to the Lord in prayer.

@Bethel> Father, we give thanks for the opportunities you give us to reach those who need a touch from You.

@Bethel> The Christian-Chat server is a tool that You have provided for us to encourage and be a blessing to those who we meet.

@Bethel> Father, you see all those who are hurting, and I lift them up to You. May we always be sensitive to the needs of the people that we are in contact with.

@Bethel> Lord, if there are some that have a need right now, I pray that their need will be met by the power of Jesus Christ.

@Bethel> I extend my faith to them that they will be set free from whatever their needs are.

@Bethel> We give You, Lord Jesus, all the glory and honor.

@Bethel> Amen

Carol> amen

Snapstur> Amen

Deacon> Amen

GentleDove> amen

@Bethel> Thank you all for being so attentive

HisDaughter> amen

Acityangel> amen

@Bethel> God bless you all

Flute> amen

@seekHm1st> Amen
